The magnificent estate of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Designed by architect Julia Morgan in 1919, the 165 opulent rooms are filled with Renaissance furniture, Roman mosaics and tapestries from around the world. During December, much of the castle is decorated for the holidays. Guest access is by shuttle from the visitor center, just off Highway 1. ELEPHANT SEALS
The Piedras Blancas elephant seal rookery is located north of Cambria and San Simeon along scenic Coast Highway One.
